After nearly 25 years of planning and mining the city has finally given the go ahead on beginning phase 1 of the Crystal Prairie Lake Park near K96 & Hoover. The mining of the lake ended last year and while some final work on the banks are still being completed, Wichita is now able to begin developing the park. A donation from Jay Russell for $1,000,000 and additional funding of $1.57 million from the city will fund the first phase of the park. This city approved the first $250,000 of funding for phase 1 of the park at the January 7th city council meeting.
Phase 1 of the Crystal Prairie Lake Park will include a 10 foot wide multi use path along Hoover Road creating a link between the future park and Sedgwick County Park. In addition phase 1 will include street crossing, a gravel parking lot for the park, and a fence between the park and the Brooks Landfill. There will also be $50,000 allocated to artwork.
